Call us, helplines urge troubled teens

1a) List two reasons why teens are reluctant to call helplines despite the promise of anonymity and professional help.
    - Teens are reluctant to call helplines because they are not really comfortable talking to strangers. Talking to someone about our problems will be very wierd for us. Talking to friends or teachers about our problem is calm for us . Secondly , teenagers are stubborn . We will keep our problem to ourselves . They don't really like to share their prob;ems with others .

    b) According to Ms Lily Chu, how does Touch Leadership and Mentoring prefer to help troubled teens?
Touch Leadership and Mentoring prefer to help teens and youths through more direct, effective, means, such as educational workshops in schools, face to face counselling and home visits.

    2) Have you confided in your friends or family members about the problems you face in school/ life? Why or why not?
Yes. I would usually talk to my friends and my mother about my problems . They are really understanding . It is much more comfortable talking to them than talking to counsellors because we barely know the counsellors. My friends wold understand as they had encoutered the same thing i am going through. It is also common for teenagers to seek for their friends help when they face a problem. For my mother, she was a teenager once so , she would understand what i am going through .

Have you been betrayed by your friends before? If yes, how? (You may change the names of the people involved for privacy)
Yes, it was about trust . They think that we are like their maid . Doing this for , that for her but in the end , she forgets you just like that .

1a) What are the 4 rules for religious harmony?
    - All group have to exercise tolerance and restraint.

    - Keep religon separate from politics

    - Government must remain secular

    - Maintain the common space that all Singaporeans share

    b) In your opinion, how can we maintain a common space in schools?
We have to respect other cultures, religion and differences to make sure everything is calm in school .

    2) Do you respect other religions? Why or why not?
Of course I do . It is very important to respect other religion . Like the national pledge , regardless of race or religion . Having friends of other religions make me more respect them . Although we are different religion , we along really well . (:

Elderly Falling Prey to 'Volunteer' Ruse (trick)

1a) What is the modus operandi (method of operating) of the con artists?
The modus operandi is faking and posing as a volunteer from one of the welfare organisation on a project to spruce up the homes of old folks. By doing this, it will lessen the amout of old folks getting trick by these con artists. Usually, the theif will go into their houses, pretending to be a volunteer. We will take a chance to steal the old folks money when the old folks aren't paying attention to them.

    b) What are the Lion Befrienders planning to do to ensure the old folks do not get conned again?
The Lion Befrienders are planning to let an experienced or a full time staff to introduce the new volunteers to the old folks so that they will not get conned again. Since the old folks recognised the new volunteers, they will know who are strangers and who are volunteers .

    2) Do you like doing social work? Why or why not?

    A Deadly Business

1a) What are the 2 worrying trends about drug trafficking mentioned in the article ?

The 2 worry trends are teens as young as 14 are getting drawn in and some Singaporeans are being used as drug mules overseas ..

1b)Why are singaporeas increasingly being used as "drug mules"?

They are runners who move drugs from one country to another . Singaporeans are used as runners because they do not need a visa for many places , and they are also less likely checked because of Singapore's reputatioon for being tough on drugs .

2)What will you do if you find out that one of your friends is selling drugs? How will you react if someone tries to sell you drugs?

I will go crazy! Of course not .. I will ask my friend if she had thought about it before doing. I would advise my friends that he/she is in the wrong and drug trafficking is illegal . My friend should know the right and the wrongs in the world. And taking or selling drugs is not good for my friends future . Drugs are not good for everyone . It may kill anyone who take is . No one should take drugs . Everyone should know that ...
I will say to them "Are you crazy?! I am not that dumb to buy or take drugs ! You think is good for you! " If not , i would walk away . People like that have no lives , too dumb to go school . Dumb enough until want to sell drugs . Come on , that is just a waste of life! Life is useless to them . & if they get court , HOORAY!

Hawkers fall prey to brazen break-ins.

    1. a) Why is it easy for burglers to break into stalls at the two markets in the Kallang area?
The burglars were able to break into the stalls as the top of the stalls were open. This is also due to their unwillingness to install safety lock to their stall.Besides that,it also cause a huge amount of money if they were to renovate their stall and insert safety locks and grilles. Therefore, most stall owners does not think about the importance of adding locks to their stall as what they think is important is the huge sums of money they have to spend on .

    b) What is the Geylang East Central Merchants' Association going to do about the break-ins?
They wanted to change the the arrangement of the stall. They also encourage the stall owners to make a changes in their stall. Its better to spend on money for safety reason then losing the sums of money and became a victim of thieves.

    2. What do you think should be done to tighten the security of the markets? What do you think of the burglars who brazenly break into the stalls?
I think that it would be alot safer if they could install a camera in each stall so that if they became a victim, police could easily identified the suspect. This could also help the police by making their work alot more easier. In addition to the stall owner,it would be better if they do not keep their money in the stall. This is usually the cause where they could lost a huge sum of money due to carelesness. The stall owner must also not forget to lock their stall after work time.Mostly, this happens due to workers or stall owners carelesness.I think the burglars who love to break into stalls have nothing better to do .They are either jobless or in debt.Burglars usually find this way a short cut method to solve their debts. For those who are jobless, they take this as an advantage to make money easier.Burglars could be either stupid or lazy for me.

    3 Cheers for the Team

1 . (a) Why is cheerleading an expensive sport?
The costumes and all the materials needed are expensive. Some of the materials needed are imported from other countries . Such as ; Costumes , upto $100 to $400 . There are some like , Gymnastic class and workshops. Tights . Training mats . Hair products . Medical insurance. Nutritional supplements and vitamins . Kaepa brand gymnastics shoe . Not forgeting their pom-poms .

    (b) What makes cheerleading such a tough sport?
People may think cheerleading is just some girls and guys shouting and screaming . But they do much more than that . They have to do flips , jumps and some others I myself can't do . It is not as easy as we thought. Like , when you do the pyramid they really need strong people , to be below . Its really tough . (:And they really need to smile , ALOT!

    2. What is your opinion of cheerleaders? If given a chance, would you join cheerleading? Why/ why not?
Cheerleaders are really cool . They really look pretty in thier costumes and they do cool moves. I would want to join cheerleading but its a tough sport . Everyone can try , but i'm not the type that are flexible . I can try but not like them . It is really cool to be a cheerleader :DD

Businesses are still big on doing good

(Part B - Home Section- Page B6- The Home Market)

Q1) What are big companies in order to be more socially responsible ?
Big businesses are not cutting down on their Corporate Social Responsibility(CSR) programmes. However, some companies have even stepped up their efforts to fulfill their corporate social responsibilities. According to CSR Asia, Hong Kong-based firm which aims to promote good corporate citizenship in this region. Communications group Sing-Tel's CSR programme is divided into four quadrants: Community, which supports initiatives focusing on youth and education; Environment; which aims to reduce carbon emmisions and cut down on paper usage; Marketplace, which involves corporate governance; and Workplace, which provides learning and development opportunities and quality work-life balance for its staff. Companies are increasingly realising that CSR is not philanthropy and there are many ways to make a social impact without the need to spend large amounts of money.

Q2) How important it is to be socially responsible? And do you think it is still possible to make a social impact during the recession?
It is very important . Yes it does .
